The National Cancer Institute (NCI), established under the National Cancer Act of 1937, is the Federal Government's principal agency for cancer research and training. ASSIST-Ovarian.com is a website designed to provide information about the ASSIST-1 (ASsessment of Survival In Solid Tumors-1) and ASSIST-3 (ASsessment of Survival In Solid Tumors-3) clinical trials for women with recurrent ovarian cancer. Both of these Phase 3 trials are studying TLK286, an investigational cancer drug being developed by Telik, Inc, and its effectiveness for treatment of recurrent ovarian cancer in comparison to already approved drugs. The ASSIST-1 trial tests how TLK286 affects survival rates when used alone, and the ASSIST-3 clinical trial uses TLK286 in combination with the approved drug carboplatin.
